Iain Brown is Lecturer in Electronic Communication and Publishing at University College London. In previous roles, he has been a freelance editor, indexer, publisher and consultant for a wide range of publishing houses, companies, individuals and authors both in the UK and Australia. Involved in several publishing charities, societies and projects, including The Tony Godwin Memorial Trust and the Society of Indexers. Likes the theatre and football refereeing. General good guy.
After a chemistry degree at Oxford, Philip Gardner was an editor for Elsevier, Lion, EP Publishing and A&C Black before going freelance in 1984. Skills include editing, proofreading and layout; he has a strong interest in computers, and writes Access and Delphi programs as well as Word macros. Likes classical music, opera and Thai food.

Ralph has worked in publishing since 1970, first as a graphic designer then as an editor. He specializes in serious non-fiction, especially works on history, art, design, architecture, music and food, and school science texts. Other work includes cartoons, diagrams and font design.
Eddie has been a freelance editor since 1980. He has a degree in mathematics and specializes in mathematics and computer-related subjects.
Jane has been a freelance editor and proofreader since 1989, after working in-house at Pergamon Press. She has degrees from St Andrews University in English Language and Literature and in Scottish Studies, but, despite this arty background, specializes in editing scientific and technical material. Skills include on-screen editing. She is an avid Tolkien fan and a dedicated netsurfer.

Ian is a freelance editor, typesetter and writer with a particular interest in electronic publishing and computing-related subjects. His in-house experience includes working for The Institute of Physics, OUP and B. T. Batsford. Spends far too much time writing WordPerfect macros and has an interest in Star Trek that stops just short of being obsessive.

Born in Germany, Petra has lived in the UK since 1981. After a degree in English Language and Literature and jobs in sales promotion and publicity, she started working as a freelance editor, proofreader and translator in 1990. Her work — which makes a welcome change from looking after her two toddling ‘hells angels’! — includes editing German language courses and open learning materials for healthcare managers as well as translating and editing for international companies.
