Can anyone help? I have a botanical label that I believe is in Finnish as it mentions a placename (Kajaani) that I have ascertained is indeed in Finland. The label reads as follows: 'Ostrobottnia kajanensis: Kajaani, Lehtikangas, tienreuna.' A translation or any elucidation would be much appreciated. ------------------------ Date: Thurs, 20 Dec 2001 From: Dominique Pivard, domi@kenavo.fi The first part is Latin (Ostrobotnia = name of a province in Western Finland) Kajaani is a city in the Kainuu province (see < http://www.kajaani.fi/english/homepage.htm >) Lehtikangas is probably the name of a village/suburb etc. around Kajaani "tienreuna" means border of the road, roadside ---[4]-- Business matters --------------------------------------- ** [4fm] Australian Style Guide Date: Thurs, 13 Dec 2001 From: Emma Davis, emma.davis@alia.org.au To all the Aussie subscribers -- has anyone heard any news about the publication of the new edition of the Australian style guide?? There was a presentation about the publication at the editors conference in April, but I've not heard anything about it since. Any news would be appreciated (probably off list). ---------------------- Date: Fri, 14 Dec 2001 From: Helen Moore, Helen.Moore@pearsoned.com.au I asked just this same question on another editing list I belong to (Ce-L) earlier this week. From the responses I received, it apppears that February/March 2002 is looking possible, but it's best to put yourself on the notification list at the AGPS shop. ---------------------- Date: Fri, 14 Dec 2001 From: Rosemary Noble, rin@deakin.edu.au Thanks to all who responded to my cry regarding e-words [see thread [2qr] E-style/estyle]. We have decided to go with using email as one word but hyphenating all others. For Australian subscribers, this is the recommendation of the editors of the new Style Manual (formerly AGPS, now AusInfo), which will be published in February 2002. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= END OF EDline 7.11 EDline homepage: < http://www.electriceditors.net/edline/ > ** The views expressed in this mailing list are strictly those of the individual contributors, and do not necessarily reflect the views of the moderators or of the Electric Editors. ** Articles (c) 2001, 2002, by individual contributors Design (c) 1996--2002 Iain Brown Compilation (c) 2002, Iain Brown / The Electric Editors =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
